About
I am the general manager and head instructor of a Taekwondo school in the lower mainland of British Columbia, a school that has served the New Westminster community for nearly three decades. Despite finishing my studies in economics and business management, what sets me apart isn't just martial arts expertise. It's a genuine fluency in human development: psychology, organizational behavior, and the philosophy underlying effective instruction all shape how I lead.
Running a school for this long has taught me that teaching technique is only part of the job. I've built and continue to refine an entire operating system for the business: staffing structures across Lead, Senior, and Junior Instructor tiers; scheduling that balances instructor strengths against student needs; enrollment and communication systems for both my core Taekwondo program and an After School Program serving multiple local elementary schools; and instructor development grounded in adolescent brain science rather than generic best practices. I treat operational problems, from sparring pairings to belt test notifications, as opportunities for thoughtful design rather than administrative overhead.
This combination of hands on leadership and conceptual depth shows up in everything I do. My staff training initiatives are built around real developmental frameworks. My customer facing communication balances warmth with professionalism. My policy and safety documentation reflects a genuine commitment to protecting students, not just satisfying a checklist. Underlying all of it is a habit of rigorous, sometimes philosophical thinking, an inclination to ask why a system works the way it does before deciding how to improve it.
For employers and clients, I bring a rare pairing: the discipline and consistency of an instructor who has led a program for years, combined with the analytical curiosity of someone who is always building better tools and better systems. I don't just run a martial arts program. I treat total human development, of students, staff, and the organization itself, as the actual work.
